A little about myself and LoveU2Beads
Hi,
I'm Rachel Menezes also known as Keka.
For the past years I found an artistic vein that I had no idea I had. It all started with cake decorating and when I realized I was making wedding cakes! Due
to the economy I had to get a FT job and keep that aside for a while.
Moving to NC country side, made my creativity bloom.
I've always liked craft stores (who doesn't, right?) and had to find something to keep me occupied while family was not home. I started doing a lot of projects with my son (6), such as picture transfer to kanvas and wood, glass bottle painting, acrylic painting,... everything that could keep us entertained and having fun.
My mom is an artist and she paints beautiful pictures in oil and also porcelain, but has been working with bridal and alterations for over 30 years and I barely sew a button!
I have a very good friend of mine that started making beautiful leather bracelets and one day he offered to make me a special set of necklace and earrings. When I saw all the beads and stones he had, I fell in love. It took him a couple of hours to make it, while we chatted and talked about our lives, goals, dreams...and suddenly it was ready. one of the most beautiful pieces I have, all personalized for me. I was very curious in how he learned to make that and thought, "hum, that looks like fun and a great therapy; maybe I can learn something like this".
I found an email about online classes of all sort of hobbies and ran into "Beading with wire, chain and leather" by Candie Cooper; I signed up and on the very first day I made a cute pair of earrings. Next day I made a nice lariat necklace and thought it was so nice of her to share with her students on her FB page. What a great motivation that was. I haven't stopped making jewelry since then.
My friends are the ones that inspire me the most. When I make a piece for one of them, I think of all the things they like, the color, texture, style and mostly, I imagine them wearing it. I don't care if it will take me one or five hours to finish, but I put love and passion into everything I do. I really enjoy pleasing and surprising my friends.
I am a selft taught person and am always trying to improve and learn new techniques; I have taken a lot of online classes, watched hundreds of tutorials on line, read books and invested a lot of time and money in tools and materials, so I can keep doing what makes me and other people happy.
